In Psalms 8:2 we find this:

Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.”

In Matthew 21:16 we find this:

“And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise”

What does this tell us?

Never discount wisdom from the most unlikely sources and from the most youthful, “out of the mouth of babes”. We can all learn something, even from those younger and less experienced than us if they have something wise to say.

How?  Because it may be more than just them talking.  maybe it’s God talking to us through them, and they are the most uncorrupted innocent mouths to tell us the way it is without sugar coating it!  Out of the mouths of babes can come wisdom we need!

We must be “Swift To Hear, Slow To Speak, And Slow To Wrath”

But what does this saying from the Bible mean? It means that we must

  • Be concerned, care and pay attention…or “swift to hear”
  • Be reserved, calm and composed…or “slow to speak”
  • Be understanding, patient, and not impulsive…or “slow to wrath”

Indeed this is great and timely advice, and is not just a quote or saying but instead a form of wisdom we should make an active part of our daily lives. I need a lot of work on this one, don’t we all?
