It’s a Nightmare or It’s a Logistical Nightmare
It’s a Nightmare…
Is Reader’s Digest right in calling this one of the 10 most irritating phrases in English? I say maybe. Why? because “it’s a nightmare” has been quite over-used and overdone. We use it for little things when it’s meant for something extreme.
Most of us don’t deserve to use “it’s a nightmare” but we tend to make up exaggerated claims and tales and comparisons using it.
But then again it does give us something to use when something was real bad. Say you just experienced a Tornado or a fire. That truly is a nightmarish event and we would be well justified using “it’s a nightmare” after events like that.
It’s a Logistical Nightmare
Now there’s an overused phrase along the same lines…often used in the military as things can become a logistical nightmare when the right part does not reach the right place at the right time and affects everything else. So we see it used in that context on TV or wherever.
But again it’s often overused there as well…for instance any time I take the family somewhere I can say this “it’s a logistical nightmare” because of all the logistis involved and it shows that it’s not easy…more like “aligning the planets” to make it happen successfully. More on that saying later…
